Would You Kill And Eat Your Dog? - Nil - 08-08-2013
So DZ, would you eat your dog to survive?
Scenario: You get lost in the woods camping, or you go on vacation to a remote island/landscape, and get yourself lost with your dog by your side. Days are going by, maybe even weeks, and you're having trouble finding a good source for food, because lets be honest, we aren't all Bear Grylls. At this point, would you kill your own dog and eat it, for your own survival?
For those of you that don't have a dog, I guess you can swap in your closest pet to you.
Personally, while I sit here, never having starved, I say no. I always have a close relationship with my dogs to the point where it'd be like killing a friend that was always there for me or a son that never thought I'd harm it.
But, put my in a position where I haven't eaten in weeks, history shows people do some CRAZY shit. So killing my own dog would be the easiest solution and your mind wouldn't think twice at that point. But I like to think I could control myself. And the comfort my dog would provide during that time would outweigh my hunger.

In order to survive I would eat a human. When you are in that situation you do not act on rationality but, on instincts. I would eat a dog or a human. Meat is meat

True, but not everyone would resort to cannibalism.

Also, I want you to remember, there are other sources of food you can find while you're lost. Killing your dog wouldn't be your last option, but the easiest and most helpful to your hunger.

I've had my dog for like 4 years and to be honest I like my dog better than my own brother. Im sitting here thinking about this, I really want to say if i was in that position I wouldn't. But to be completely honest, I probably would just because of the life or death situation.

I don't have any pets, but I'd like to have a dog.
The thing is, we won't know how far we will/can go till we get in a situation like that.

I'm gonna say that I wouldn't. Mainly because dogs have better senses than humans, which could help lead you to either civilization of some sort, or find some type of nutrients.
If it did come down to the end, where there was absolutely no chance of living, then yes, I'd eat my dog to survive.

I do know from only reading from others' experiences. Most people will try to eat ANYTHING before resorting to cannibalism, or resorting to having to eat/kill something close to them.
In the situation I'm presenting, there are still other ways to find food, except I'm sure most people aren't survival experts and rather eat the dog. But you never know, depending on the dog it can help you hunt, find food, find civilization, and overall provide comfort day in and day out proving that you aren't alone, instead of going insane. He could provide a sign of hope, to keep you going. You have to think of the substantial emotional and mental support your dog can provide than a quick fix to your hunger, that doesn't guarantee you'll get out alive.
