School rewards students for lying to teachers - Xeronations - 12-02-2012

Quote:A school in Cambridge, England is rewarding students for lying to their teachers.

Pupils attending Perse School are allowed to get away with "minor offences" if they think of a reason on the spot.

Headteacher Ed Elliott explained to Cambridge News: "As head, I like to play my part in creating a quick-thinking, communication-savvy generation by giving students who have committed a minor offence ten seconds to talk their way out of a punishment.

"Many rise admirably to the challenge, and in so doing develop the charm and eloquence needed in the next generation of British entrepreneurs and wealth creators."

Elliott added that the lies must be somewhat convincing and believable to be accepted.

"It's a great lesson in life to talk your way out of a tight corner in a very short period of time," he said.

I think this is a very interesting concept. What do you guys think?

Interesting, but it should be used on another topic. Like ten seconds to weasel their way out of homework for the night. Instead of lying, if they get good at lying then in the future when they are questioned by police and found guilty and lying then it's double the ouch.

I don't think homework would work because they really do need that to improve grades and what not. It should be used for things like swearing, or maybe small pranks. I think it could lead to compulsive lying though.

Its kind of useful to learn to lie, so that they can grow up to be politician, or businessmen. Business men is more tricky though because they have to learn to lie without "lying" such as fine print in contracts and stuff like that.

It's not exactly like 90% of students will become business men. It has more cons than pros in my opinion.
