Shinzo Abe Assassinated - Boudica - 07-09-2022

Japan's former prime minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated while giving a speech at a political campaign event. The gunman (seen in photos just prior to the shooting) was tackled to the ground by security officials and is now in police custody. He used what appears to be a homemade weapon.

The gunman is said to have believed Shinzo Abe was related to a specific organisation and that was the reason for the shooting. What organisation that might be, has not been announce in the press, as far as I'm aware.

The suspect, named as Tetsuya Yamagami, admitted shooting Abe with a homemade gun, and said he had a grudge against a "specific organisation", police said.

Several other handmade weapons, similar to those used in the attack, had been confiscated after a search of the suspect's house, police officers told a news conference.

Explosives were also found at the home and police said they had advised residents to evacuate the area.

The suspected shooter told officers he had a grudge against a specific group he believed Abe was connected to, police said, adding that they were investigating why the former PM was targeted out of other people related to the group.

Regardless of your personal politics, this is sad news. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I heard about this! Super weird. Especially given the identity of the actual killer was announced very early on.

Memes circulated that said Hideo Kojima was the killer. Obviously false, but politicians and others are having to apologize.
