Zelensky Tells UN to Remove Russia or Dissolve - Boudica - 04-05-2022 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the UN and showed a graphic video depicting dead bodies, burned and disfigured. Zelensky claimed Russian soldiers “cut off limbs, slashed their throats, women were raped and killed in front of their children. Their tongues were pulled out only because the aggressor did not hear what they wanted to hear from them”. Zelensky has asked the UN to expel Russia from the UN. However, as Russia has the power to veto, this is very unlikely. Therefore, Zelensky also has said the following : “If there is no alternative and no option, then the next option would be dissolve yourself altogether”. Of course, Russia has denied these claims, suggesting footage is faked or not based on the time of Russia's occupation in Bucha. BBC and other Western media sources have confirmed satellite imagery showing bodies laying on roads/out in the open for weeks (including the time of Russia's occupation. ![]() I have not seen any Russian sources provide any-counter evidence. If anyone has it, please feel free to share below. Sources: BBC BBC BBC Yahoo Not my favourite sources, but they had direct quotes from Zelensky's address, which is what I was after. The BBC has also shared direct quotes from Russian representatives: Code: Russian representative to the UN Security Council, Vasily Nebenzya, has rejected accusations of war crimes by Russian troops in Bucha, arguing there are “flagrant inconsistencies in events shown by Ukrainian and Western media". What do you think should happen? Regardless of what "side" you're on, one could argue that the UN has not done what it aims to do: "Maintain International Peace and Security" Do you think the UN should dissolve for not obtaining one of their primary goals, or is there a better way the UN can help stop the war? RE: Zelensky Tells UN to Remove Russia or Dissolve - Raghavop1 - 04-06-2022 Irrespective of anything as you said the job UN was made for It has completely failed. It should get dissolved RE: Zelensky Tells UN to Remove Russia or Dissolve - Boudica - 04-06-2022 (04-06-2022, 06:35 AM)Raghavop1 Wrote: Irrespective of anything as you said the job UN was made for Alternatively, one could look at their past achievements and say they still have a purpose. I'm not sure how I'd feel if I was one of the UN representatives. It is unnecessary taxpayer expenditure. These programs like NATO are pointless and bloated and cost citizens heavily. Also as far as the situations with the dead bodies, it's tragic but people need to see all war as bad and not just there being war crimes. Both Ukraine and Russia forced young males to go to war which is a crime in itself, the whole reality of war regardless of what weapons are used and how civilians died. We often for instance see things like certain methods of killing like chemical weapons is bad for some arbitrary reason, but so-called conventional weapons like firearms can maim, kill, and harm. And as far as what we see in the media there's rarely enough info to really see the true picture. What we should understand is if everyone refuses to fight we can avoid these problems at all. War crimes are usually referring to extremely sadistic methods of killing.. However, shooting someone in the head with a gun is still killing someone. I wish what you describe could be a reality. However, I do think it's an unfortunate side of human nature = People want to fight. How many people on this board can talk about getting into a fist fight with someone? I'd wager, quite a few. While a fist fight isn't the same as killing someone, as soon as people feel enough threat level and anger, it can be all too easy for this to turn to be ready to kill someone. Plenty of Ukraine and Russia's soldiers want to fight. I'm also sure many of them wish they didn't have to fight at all. It's a tough one for sure! |
