How do those facebook scams work? - czk908 - 01-18-2022
I'm sure we've all seen those random accounts that request to be friends with you and then message you. I never accept requests from people I don't know so I'm not sure what happens next. But those scams where they end up taking over your account, how do they work? Do they end up sending a link to a phishing login page or something like that to steal your credentials? Or is there a different technique that is harder to see is not legit? Or can they do it without you clicking a link at all? (this wouldnt make sense to me, but apparently it is possible, i can't wrap my head around how that would work)...
Just wondering how so many people I know fall for this, sometimes multiple times. It's not always older people either, I've seen it happen to teenagers and college kids, especially recently.

As you say, it's likely the result of phishing or similar deception. I would assume the people falling for this, are providing their login credentials or downloading malware. That level of foolishness generally leads to a landfill of possibilities.

completely agreed. i might have to make a fake facebook to play around with this. it's very interesting to me to see how many people can fall for what i think are obvious phishes... like i always tell my friends, "if a hot girl dm's you, it's probably a hacker, because you are ugly as hell" lmao
