I was blackmailed last night. Need advice - Merci - 12-28-2021

I believe this is an appropriate thread to ask my question. I apologize in advance if not.

Here’s what happen: I meet a girl on a dating app and she starts sending me video of herself on Snapchat naked. I send a few dick pics and don’t think much of it. About 2 weeks pass and this girl asks to speak on WhatsApp. Kinda a red flag but I look past it. Immediately once we started talking on WhatsApp, she sends me all the dick pics I sent her and screenshots on the people I follow on instagram, threatening to send the pictures to everyone I follow if I don’t pay $500. I didn’t pay and they spammed instagram with my dick pictures. I have screen recordings of everything.

I have this persons gmail address, their phone number associate with WhatsApp that they contacted me with, Snapchat username, and PayPal email address. I can get their btc address if that helps. I know bitcoin is not nearly as anonymous as it’s reputation, especially Coinbase.

Is any of the above information useful in obtaining their IP address or any other identifying information?

I plan to go to my local police department and attempt to press charges but I have a feeling they are going to be clueless about how to possibly identify this person. I’m in the US.

Thank you

Damn! You are a victim of sextortion.

For those who are reading this, just a quick hint on what the situation is all about, this is somewhat a sub-branch of e-whoring but this one is the scariest of all. It involves in extorting the victim, most victims of this who couldn't pay up especially those who are students might have the chance to do suicide because when they can't pay up, the e-whore will dox you and send the pics to your family members.

GOING BACK, the best thing you can ONLY do about this is get the police involve because no matter how much you pay to them, they will NEVER ever stop asking you money and you will just get in debts when you have nothing to give them anymore.

I don't want you ending up like the student in this video https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-30494566) who ended up doing suicide because he couldn't pay the e-whore money.

P.S.
Don't believe in other's suggestion on hiring a hacker, or whatever, you will just 100% WASTE MONEY. They will take advantage of you since you are having this day, for sure you are vulnerable to scam offers. More money will be lost. Just stick with what I said, and I guarantee you won't waste a dime.

I’m replying on mobile so formatting may be bad. Thank you for your response. I did not know about sextorition nor that UK case. I also saw those “hackers” claiming to be able to help me get some kind of justice.

To further elaborate for those this may help in avoiding my same fate in the future, I’m going to be as detailed as possible without doxing myself.

This issue occurred on the dating app Hinge. It is a US dating company identical to Tinder. I liked her photo and naked pictures and videos were exchanged shortly after. I was under the impression that these dating apps were adequate at preventing location spoofing because I tried it unsuccessfully before, though I am mediocre in my capabilities. I believe this was a guy and a girl working together, at minimum 2 people were involved.

These people spoke broken English that was good enough to understand what they were trying to convey. They did send my nudes to literally every person I follow on instagram (mom, immediate family, everyone). They slowly progressed in the publication of my photos. They would send me screenshots of them sending messages to people I follow asking if they know me. They made an account with my face on it and started posting progressively worse photos on the fake account’s story and would screenshot the people that viewed the story, all of whom were the people I followed on my personal instagram.

We were going back and forth on the WhatsApp. Them threatening to release the photos and me sending them screenshots of blackmail, extortion, and revenge porn laws in my state. They lowered their asking price from $500 to $300. I never once considered paying. They eventually started to call me through WhatsApp. I answered and it was a male on the phone and it seemed like he was trying to lower his voice. I couldn’t understand what he was saying and hung up. They called me about 5 times. I answered once and ignored the rest.

I am not a person that is ashamed or embarrassed by my dick/body because of this I feel the situation was extremely less terrorizing than these people hoped it would be for me. But not everyone has the same attitude towards this issue and I understand how frightening it could be.

After looking at the screenshots & screen recordings they sent me, I believe these people are located in Spain. Their cell phone service provider is “orange”. I looked it up and it’s a cell phone service provider located in Spain. I tried pulling metadata from their screenshots but I’m a novice in these activities compared to the vast internet. They used an iPhone while doing all of this. I was assuming it was going to be an android mainly because Snapchat never notified me of the “girl” screen recording my nude photos. I know android has a lot more apps compared to the App Store causing me to assume they used an app that allowed them to screen recording/screenshot without notifying me, none of which are on the App Store that I know of.

My advice from this experience is the only way to ensure your naked photos won’t be leaked is to never send any naked photos. Even if you trust the person. Once your photos are out of your possession anything can happen.

Stay safe on the internet, practice good opsec, & don’t trust anyone on the internet.

It's good now that you learned your lesson. Sexting and sex on cam area really stupid concepts and you shouldn't do these sort of shits. Never in my entire life I did this as it is very stupid and you can really be very prone to blackmail with this.

If you are going to use dating apps, just do messaging, trading pics and video calls, or much better video calls only to verify who you talk to and never show your dick to anyone, unless you are in-person with your match. Don't ever fall from social engineering.

And lastly, if you aren't scared of this shit, you wouldn't be here in the first place. Lol. Anyway, I understand your situation and I think you should keep in tab all of the data you have recorded. If you changed your mind and went to the police, show all the data you have as proof that you were blackmailed by these people.

You can try to find out what you can from the info you were able to get, but as convector mentioned above, I don't think you should try to rely on the services of any proposed hackers as they may also just be out for money.

You did the right thing by not sending them any money, because sending people anything won't make anything get deleted. By showing a no fear attitude towards the situation it's helpful because these people will be less likely to try it on others on the future if they feel it is less effective. Just remember that any media you send at any time could be on the internet permanently, so always be ready for that potential. Also, when just talking to people for the first time, don't start sending everything instantly as in a deep relationship. Most really interested women likely wouldn't even want to see those types of things early on.

Just call the police and charge them back for what they have done to you also be patient and don't be dumb to do these things more again.

I agree with this. Still whatever you do, don't give out free money, and don't reply to them ever again. If your face is not fully revealed on the photos, I highly suggest you just deny everything to death and you will be saved. Just tell your family and friends that you met some weirdo online, you had an argument then they started to harass you. The best excuse ever!

Don't share your personal details including photos and video. Don't ever respond to harassment by strangers. They wanted you to be outraged and illicit a response from you to have leverage. Leverage is all they ever wanted. They are probably scamming more than just yourself.

This sort of thing is common because most people crave attention especially during holidays. During the whole pandemic people are increasingly lonely. It's important that you learned your lesson but you never even considered why you did it in the first place. I recommend seeking counseling for your loneliness. A professional could help you reach a solution to your issues with being so lonely you were willing to reach out to a "girl" on two separate apps. That first network is one mistake and the second network, the one she baited you into joining her WhatsApp chat, that's entirely on you. You should have known that there is no reason to choose a separate chat app from the first unless to organize a meeting. Dating apps are just huge avenues by which you can be exploited into giving personal details.

I can't give you any legal advice or counseling but you should at least try to distance yourself from the person by removing Whatsapp accounts, deleting your conversation, your account and deactivate your Instagram to minimize risk of your photos being spread farther than that.

RE: I was blackmailed last night. Need advice - Oni - 01-01-2022

We live in a world where plenty of entertainers have shared or had their photos leaked, so it's nothing to be too ashamed of. Unless you're in the frame smiling and pointing at it, I'm not sure anyone will ever be able to ascertain it's "your" dick. Provided you weren't doing the latter, deleting your related accounts will clean up most of the mess.

That said, if you're seeking any chance of action you'll probably have to contact law enforcement. The problem with you going off-platform and using WhatsApp, makes it difficult for Instagram to intervene or validate your statements. If seeking legal action, make sure you keep documentation of literally everything.
