Introduction
Alright, so you are probably reading this because you want to start watching Anime! But how do you get into it? This guide will teach you on where you should watch your Anime, it has some useful tools on staying organized with watching Anime, and it will also have suggestions for you on what you should watch, as there are a billion different genres! Read this guide to find out how to get into the wonderful world of Anime!
Tools
Alright, so when you watch Anime, you will probably end up getting lost in the thousands of different Animes out there. The tools in this section will help you with staying organized when watching Anime, because when you get lost in Anime, it can take forever to find where you were before!
- MyAnimeList (MAL for short) - http://www.myanimelist.net/
MAL is probably going to be the tool you use most out this entire list. It is a Anime listing website that will help keep you incredibly organized it will scare you. On MAL, you sign up and it will give you two lists to edit as much as you want. You get the Anime list (Which is what most of you will use) and the Manga list (Which is used for keeping track of Manga, we won't go into Manga in this tutorial though.) So once you sign up, you can go up to the top bar and select which list you wish to edit. Once you wish to add an Anime, all you have to do is search the name of the Anime, and it will pop up, you can click on it and add a bunch of info to make it look fancier such as: how many episodes you have watched to date, rewatch value, your overall score or even how much space the Anime took up on your harddrive if you downloaded it! MAL can also give you recommendations on Anime you should watch if you enjoyed another Anime, but the best part is, it is all user written suggestions, so it isn't based on just the genre, but other people have watched the Anime and can tell you all the similarities! The is overall one of the best tools for Anime out there!

Now this tool is somewhat like MAL, but without the organizing features. Once you go to the site, it will give you the option to pick which genre you enjoy, can it will give you a HUGE list on certain Animes to watch. You can sort by episodes, ratings or even the year the Anime started airing. Personally I don't use this tool too often, but it can be a useful tool for when you need to find an Anime in a specific genre that you enjoy. Now I have yet to browse much of the rest of the site, but I know, like MAL, there is a section for Manga if you are into that kind of thing. I personally love Manga, but I am quite picky, and if it wasn't for this website, I wouldn't have gotten into Manga! This tool isn't quite as good as MAL, but if you don't like MAL for some reason, then feel free to use this tool as it is also very good!
Where to watch Anime
There are a ton of different places that you can watch Anime. You can go on your own TV and find Anime, but quite a lot of people don't have an Anime station on their TV, so they have to rely on the internet, because buying DVDs of Anime is pricey. Here is a list of places you can watch Anime.
Netflix is a very good place to start watching Anime as it has most of the mainstream Anime that is good for entry level. If you don't mind listening to dubbed versions of Anime, then I suggest you head on over to Netflix. I have watched quite a few really good Anime series over on Netflix, but I watch most of mine on different websites. One of my favorite Anime "Darker than Black" is on Netflix (Which is quite surprising, knowing Netflix) so to this day I still sometimes watch Anime on Netflix. If you guys can't afford Netflix, you can always sign up for a free trial over at the Netflix website. You can get 1 month free just to see if it something you are willing to throw money at and see if it has the kind of Anime you like!

Youtube is a great place to watch Anime, but sometimes it can be quite shitty. If you are watching Mainstream Anime such as Dragonball, Naruto or Bleach, you won't have an issue with using Youtube, but if you are trying to watch Anime that not a lot of people watch, then you will run into some issues unless you can speak a lot of languages. Anytime I have gone to Youtube looking for Anime that isn't very popular, I will usually find it, but it will be subbed in another language such as Spanish or in its original Japanese language without the subs. So use Youtube as much as you wish, but be sure if you are watching an unpopular Anime to know quite a few languages, mainly Spanish or Japanese!

Crunchyroll is a website dedicated to Anime, unlike the other websites on this list. Crunchyroll has a ton of Anime on it and it is a great place to watch it! The only bad thing that I think brings this website down a bit is the fact that if you want Action Anime, they only have mainstream ones such as Naruto, and the only non-popular Anime they really have on there is Romance, which I don't have a problem with, but quite a few other users may run into this problem. Bewarned when paying for this service because the Anime you like may not be on there. I suggest looking around for a free 1 month pass before actually paying for the service itself!
- Google - http://www.google.com/
Now for Google. Now this is where I usually go for my Anime needs as it has anything and everything that you could possibly need. Now you may be thinking "What in the hell is this dumbass going on about, Google doesn't have Anime on it" but I am not talking about on it, I mean with a search. Now with 'underground' Anime so to speak, like I said earlier, you can watch Anime you on Youtube, but if it is underground I wish you goodluck, and Netflix has a limited amount of Anime. But let's say you see an Anime that you NEED to watch and you read reviews on MAL, then you would ahead a search for it in Google. Use this when searching: (ANIME NAME HERE Episode NUMBER HERE subbed) and you should get a good list of Anime. I am sorry to say, but usually when you do this you won't find the Anime in 1080p HD, it will usually be in like 480p, but it is still perfectly fine. I usually pick the first result as it usually has the best results, but you can always go back a few page as there are thousands of Anime streaming websites. Once you finally found a website that uploads it in a good enough quality, bookmark the page and save it so you can always go back and watch all your Anime there!
How to find out which kind of Anime you like
Alright, so now you have just about finished our entrance into Anime. You have the tools, where to watch it, but you are still missing the key element. How do I pick out an Anime I will like. Alright, so you might want to go on MAL first. Go into the Anime section and go to top Anime. Scroll through the list and find something that seems interesting to you. You will click on the name of the Anime, as that will bring you directly to the Anime's page where you can read the synopsis of the story, look at the characters, and see its rating. Most Anime that you will find on the Top Anime list will usually be in the high 7s, 8s and if you picked an Anime right from the top of the list you will sometimes get a very low 9. Alright, back on track here. So you will have to read through the synopsis and think about 2 questions! Here are the things that should be running through your head!
1. Would I be able to sit through this an not be bored?
2. Is this the type of genre I like? (Will discuss on this in a moment)
Alright, so once you have answered the 2 questions above after reading the synopsis, you should have these 2 answers:
1. Yeah
2. Maybe or Yeah
Now for question 2, we will discuss this right now. This Anime is going to help pave the way for the next couple Anime until you can start picking out Anime on your own! When you watch the Anime you picked, it should occur to you if you like that genre or not, and that is why the answer is maybe. I like quite a few genres, so don't feel like I am dropping a bomb on you right here and now saying you can only watch a single type of Anime, but this will be what helps pick it out!
--Skip ahead a week--
Once you have watched the Anime, you will go back to the page. Once you have gone back to the page of the Anime, you will go ahead and click on the Recommendations tab (on MyAnimeList)! Once you have loaded the page you should see a huge cluster fuck of a ton of Anime. Go through the list and you should notice something: all the anime somewhat resemble the Anime you just finished! That is because these are user written recommendations! Real people will tell you about a specific Anime and tell you why it is like the one that you just finished! If you watched let's say the Anime "Death-Note", people will help you pick out an Anime that is close to what that one was like. You will use this tab all throughout your Anime watching career. If you like a certain Anime, this will help you find another one just like it!
