Tokyo Olympics - Boudica - 07-24-2021

Who is watching the Tokyo Olympics? I just saw the full opening ceremony on catch up today.

Looks like Japan won the Gold for Judo. Takato had gotten a Bronze in Rio. Pretty cool.

I loved watching the Olympics decades ago, but unfortunately, I don't have the time nowadays.

Though, I tend to briefly view the latest on YouTube during my breaks from computing.

Very nice! I am looking forward to watching a lot of the "new sports" being added. Some of these are controversial: Karate, Skateboarding, Surfing, and sport climbing.

As someone who used to do 9 hours of Karate a week for fun, I think I'd quite enjoy watching it. I'd also be curious to watch the others. I've seen a few clips of the sport climbing which looks pretty fun.

There's also the youngest British summer Olympian: Sky Brown in Skateboarding. She seems like an interesting character too.
Code:
Sky's dad Stu is English, but moved to the USA in his teens, before meeting mum Mieko in Japan. Born in Miyazaki, Sky spends half of her school year in Japan and half in the US.

At the age of eight, Brown competed in the Vans US Open, making her the youngest person ever to compete at the event. On her return in 2018 she finished in the top 10.

So sad that Covid ruined these games

There is a lot of sadness. However, I actually think it's made these games even more important. If nothing else, it'll be memorable for the fact they managed to run the games at all. If I remember correctly, the games due during WW2 were both cancelled.

Though I am not watching, I follow the news live. The current total medals tally of top three participating countries are China - 62 (G 29/S 17/B 16), USA - 64 ( G 22/S 25/B 17), and Japan - 33 (G 17/S 6/B 10).

I'm glad Japan are doing well. I sort of want them to beat China, just because they are a good host company.
