Japan's Buddhist Statue Gets Facemask - Boudica - 06-19-2021

The giant Buddhist statue in Japan is getting a 77lbs facemask in an act of prayer, wishing for the end of the pandemic. It's pretty cool watching them put it in place.

Any other country and this could be considered sacrilege. Japan has handled the pandemic well, though.

A job well done Indeed.

I'm wondering what's behind their reason (If any) for selecting that particular color.

I think this is a fairly respectful way of doing things - It's an act of prayer. They're not defacing something. xD Although, you can already see people are mad by reading the comments on youtube.

It is a positive message indeed, people getting angry for that are missing the whole point here.
And pretty cool to see how they manage to install the mask!

I completely agree! Well said.

And it was pretty epic to watch them do it.

There will always be angry people. I think if they handled the pandemic well and are being completely respectful about it then it should be held in good faith. Nothing is wrong with wishing good health for others.

I completely agree. However, human beings are always going to behave that way. You'll never have a completely appreciative society. I do think the complaining is a result of something good, in a way. If life is of a high enough quality that the things you have to moan about are things like putting a facemask on a statue, then people are living pretty well, aren't they?

I hope the person working on it is doing well

The statue is not a piece of art it is a symbol of religion where millions pay respect.
