U.S. Employers Allowed to Require Vaccine - Dismas - 05-30-2021 Employers are now able to require vaccination of employees. One could argue it's a victory for the rights of business owners, but a defeat for the individual. At the same time, you have the choice of who you work for, and whether you get the vaccine or not. Quote:Employers are allowed under federal law to require workers to get a COVID-19 vaccine before they can physically return to the workplace, according to updated guidance issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Friday. This was always the deciding factor for me getting the vaccine. Lets hope my employer doesn’t require it after a while RE: U.S. Employers Allowed to Require Vaccine - mothered - 05-30-2021 Quote:Employers are allowed under federal law to require workers to get a COVID-19 vaccine before they can physically return to the workplaceIn my view, employees shouldn't be forced to get vaccinated, but rather get tested prior to returning to work- which Is a much more effective approach. In my locality, people are not tested at the time of vaccination so If they already have the virus, It'll defeat the purpose of getting vaccinated for the purpose of returning to work. I think frequent testing is a great idea. I currently get tested once a week via the lateral flow test. The only issue, is it's not 100% accurate. You can get false positives, and more concerningly, false negatives. It's still more useful than not doing anything at all. One of the things that this reminds me of, is that US Education institutions (including universities) require the meningitis jab. I had to fill out all kinds of forms to even be allowed to enroll. I actually had no idea that the meningitis jab requires a top-up every ten years. I quickly went out and got a bunch of vaccines done that were the more "important" ones. I imagine this covid vaccine situation is no different, other than being on a much larger scale. Is It solely related to the lateral flow test? Thankfully, my gov has made at home testing kits available for free, to order online. We just fill in our details, and a pack of 7 kits turns up a couple days later. They've recommended testing every 3-4 days (the time it takes covid to show up on a test, I believe). While I don't quite do it that frequently, I am testing at least once a week. The inaccuracy is indeed solely related to the lateral flow test. I found this site that explains it pretty well. I'm glad I can help ![]() |
