[Question] Job as a Front End Web-Developer - Tibo inc - 04-30-2021

Hi guys,

So I am currently teaching myself front end web development, and wondered if I could turn it into a career.

For reference I am 17 In england, I kinda messed up my GCSEs so left with only a Maths qualification.

But I was wondering if I taught myself front end fully and built an impressive portfolio would it be plausible I could get hired anyway?

It depends whether employers require certifications as part of their recruitment process.

They do In my locality and because I haven't completed college nor have a single cert In my name, I cannot get a job In the IT sector.

You absolutely could. I worked for a few years as a backend developer, my resume was nothing but the work that I did for other people or companies, and I was self taught in what I did. One thing though is that I wouldn't keep yourself too attached to just front end development.

Not so much on a more corporate level, but much more on an individual, when people would pay me to develop their website, they often times wouldn't have a concept of what is backend or frontend work. That being the case, even though my work was advertised to be backend work, I did a lot of frontend work too. So don't be surprised if you're designing a website and a customer is expecting functionality from it.

You can do so by selecting "Preview Signature" In your user control panel, or simply view your previous posts.

In future, be sure to remain on-topic.

You could try to apply for an internship at a big company.

Hey, everybody. I am thrilled to find this thread because I want to tell my story. I also started working in IT once, but everything I learned was thanks to online courses. I am delighted that a friend of mine recommended me to work like this. In fact, because of the pandemic, I lost my job. I did not know what to do with my life and where to get my money. He already recommended several sites where I found a lot of free courses, which helped me when I applied for a job. That interview was one of the most important of my life. Since then, my life has turned 180 degrees. I'm pleased with what I'm doing now and my field of IT consulting. Good luck to everyone! You know that you can do everything you want.
