Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh (the Queen's husband), passed away today at Windsor castle. He's the longest serving British royal consort, ever. For those of you who don't know too much about him, he's a fascinating character, and has led a very interesting life. I'd recommend reading about him.

Sad moment for that family, but its not shocking considering his age and recent poor health.

I totally agree. He's had a very long life, and he was in hospital for some time recently.

I also thought I'd share some amusing quotes of his.

I must say he was a charming and charismatic guy. If he got to live 99 years,
then he atleast had lived much longer and seen much more, than most other people.

I'm surprised he lived that long but not surprised at the same time if that make sense. I always had the sense he was a charming decent honorable person.

The British public often heard him say some... tactless comments xD Semi-racial but usually just in jest. He was a good man at heart and served the UK in more ways than the average Joe could understand.

Rest in peace.

To be fair, his jokes were likely just that. Originally the word "racist" was reserved for hateful/nasty people, but has since been made a marketing/political tool.

Strangely, he's a much loved member of the Royal family. He's a rare breed in the public eye as he could get away with those jokes. However, he is someone who many people respect. He's sacrificed a lot, and served a lot.

A 41-gun salute by our military just finished all over the UK. There was one gun fired every minute after 12:00PM.

With the demise of Prince Philip an era has ended. A good and kind soul, he will be missed. RIP Prince Philip.
