Microsoft Considers Buying Discord - Oni - 03-24-2021 Sounds like Microsoft is looking to acquire Discord, given fewer people are using Skype. Fun fact: eBay sold Skype for $2.75 Billion in 2009. Why do they need discord? Oh that's right, because they bought it, turned it into a corporate communication tool, and promptly ran it into the ground for Joe Blow. RE: Microsoft Considers Buying Discord - mothered - 03-24-2021 If Microsoft seals the deal, It'll be Interesting to see whether any changes are made to Discord's current terms. RE: Microsoft Considers Buying Discord - Drako - 03-24-2021 The answer is as plain as day; They want to expand their empire so they can know as much about you as possible, and then promptly run Discord into the shitter with poor decisions and a terrible development team. It's a bizarre statement to make, but I might prefer Microsoft owning them. We didn't have to make an elaborate gesture of enforcing their terms of service, when we ran the Skype group. That could all change as the times have, though. RE: Microsoft Considers Buying Discord - biborg - 04-07-2021 If you think about it, the new buzz app "clubhouse" is basically Discord audio channels wrapped in an invite only app (marketing purposes) so Microsoft buying Discord is genius in a way, not only to get exposure among the gaming community but to expand the endless possibilities of Discord in general. Now I'm curious if they will do some cross merging with Skype (since it's a dying product) but the way I see it, a lot of tech companies have cash just lying there, so they either buy back their stocks, buy some crypto (like Tesla) or in most of the cases buy another tech company to expand. Surprisingly the only company that is sitting on a load of cash is Apple, and they choose to make media content (movies, documentaries and series) instead of investing their cash. Go figure. |
