Should software be copyrighted or patented? - VeraLee - 03-16-2021

Hello everyone,
I am a software engineer. I am in the process of writing software. I am wondering if my software is complete can I prevent others from copying it and copyrighting it, since I don't want others to steal my brainpower. Hope everyone will give me the answer.
Thank you very much.

I'm a pirate. So I dont think there should be any copyright laws at all.

since its your code, copyrighting your work is absolutely fine, this usually shows that you're proud of your work & shows what you're capable of

If there were no copyright laws, you wouldn't be considered a pirate anymore.

I think you should have the right to copyright your code. It is your intellectual property. Of course, someone could take your code and modify it slightly, so that could make it difficult to defend in court.

But if you'd like it would be a good deterrent for people looking to steal your code.

I think it will take laws to protect the brainpower of others

Obviously a strawman. But the people that say those things are usually only interested in risk-capital and making money, and not very much in partaking in shared knowledge. Feel free to use google and look up open scource.

Maybe you should invest your time in the proprietary sector.
Good luck.
