Biden Declares Major Disaster in Texas - Oni - 02-20-2021

Many southern states are under state of emergency after the recent storm and outages. Hope everyone is safe and warm.

Quote:The White House announced on Saturday that the president had declared a major disaster in Texas, and he has asked federal agencies to identify additional resources to address the suffering in dozens of counties in the state.

The federal disaster assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and more.

Biden said Friday he plans to visit Texas next week but will only go when he determines his presence won't be a "burden."

"The answer is yes," Biden said of a visit to Texas, adding his plan originally was to go in the middle of next week. "But I don’t want to be a burden. When the president lands in a city in America it has a long tail."

Meanwhile, three U.S. congresswomen visited the state Saturday. Texas Rep. Penny Morales Shaw joined U.S. Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sylvia Garcia to fill boxes at the Houston Food Bank.

Last week, Biden approved states of emergency in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

He had a pretty rough start, i'll give him that. If im not mistaken, he's already made some political blunders and tend to act a bit moronicly in interviews. He seems to sort of 'have the world on his shoulders' meaning now that he seized the oppurtunity from Trump, Biden is in a position where people are like, "yeah, you want power? do it better then." i mean, Trump may have been sort of a very big asshole, but the problem with Biden isnt that he is a complete scumbag, but rather, that his politics is built on the opposite, giving too much, promising too much, and then having to live up to those standards. but other than the fact that he is sort of in a difficult position, with this disaster, and making a fool of himself, he does seem like a much more sympathetic and gentleman person.

its.... sad. Sad

It's good that Biden has taken Immediate action and most Importantly, offering disaster assistance.

To those affected, stay safe.

Being honest, declaring a state of emergency a week after doesn't do much. Hopefully more something more tangible will be done for those suffering, though most people have electricity again.

I see your point, but It's better to have some assistance than nothing at all.

This is good news. I lost power for 3 days during the storm. City-wide boil water order didn’t affect me too much because the water was shut off anyway. Luckily my neighbor works for Ozarka and hooked us up with 4 cases of water.

My family and I made it through the storm without a scuff. We live in North Texas, and temperatures hovered around -10 & 20 degrees fahrenheit for about 6 days. It wasn't fun, but no pipes froze, and we managed to have working electricity and water throughout the week.

That's pretty fortunate. Some friends had no power/internet the whole week.
