Voice Actors Suicidal Thoughts? - Jiggly - 11-19-2020

The Japan Actors Union released results from a survey they ran, which included the following question: Have you ever thought about wanting to die because of work?

Apparently, 48/166 said "yes". This survey looked into other work-related anxieties, such as working hours and harassment.

Code:
A psychiatrist at the symposium where the union announced the results stated, "entertainers are constantly judged on social media services, and have diet and sleep restrictions, so it is easy to become stressed, and they do not have anyone to talk to about their worries, which can lead to thoughts of suicide." The Japan Actors Union has roughly 2,600 members. The union stated it wants to take measures such as setting up a service where actors and voice actors can discuss their mental health and concerns. Entertainment news websites like Variety have posted articles recently about a recent string of actor deaths by suspected suicide in Japan — including actress Sei Ashina, actor Haruma Miura, actress Yuko Takeuchi, and reality TV star Hana Kimura — which have raised concerns about suicides in Japan during the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

I think what makes it so sad, is that the people who work in it, are often very passionate about there work. They will have spent years getting good at what they do, and they aren't being rewarded. I'd happily pay for an anime service if I knew the money went to the people who deserved it. That doesn't seem to exist at the moment.

Voice actors are very important to the anime community. As they bring life to the characters. It could be very stressful for them to work on various projects continuously with tight deadlines. Spl care should be given for them. May be they could meet the anime fans more often, this might make them feel appreciated about the work they are doing and they won't get destructive thoughts.
