Showtime Revives Dexter - Oni - 11-10-2020

Dexter will be getting a reboot after an ambiguous ending. @Jiggly had a roommate that originally introduced me to the show.

Quote:Dexter is back to his blood-spattering ways after Showtime ordered a new limited-series revival of the long-running serial-killer drama.

Michael C. Hall, who starred as the title character in the 2006-13 series, is back along with showrunner Clyde Phillips. The premium cable network has handed the series a 10-part run that is set to go into production in early 2021 with a tentative premiere date of fall 2021.

The original followed Dexter Morgan, who was a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami Police Department but moonlighted as a serial killer.

Gary Levine, Co-President of Entertainment at Showtime, said that the network was only willing to revisit the “unique” character if they could find a creative take that was “worthy,” and they have “found it”.

I got excited for a minute- I thought you were referring to Dexter's Lab.

LOL! Ironically, the main character of this show, technically worked in a lab.. Just the forensics kind.

This show was really great. We were warned the ending wasn't going to be exactly what we'd want, but reviving it sounds great. I wonder what they'll do differently.

Haha, that would be a throwback.

Yes, certainly something that I'd look forward to.

That's going to be interesting to watch! I knew Dexter couldn't just be ditched off as a lumberjack!

Um, spoilers for anyone who STILL hasn't seen the first 8 seasons xD

Further semi-spoilers but not really:

Spoiler:
It sounds like they want the comeback to continue where they left off, of sorts. They don't want to "undo" what they did in the first 8 seasons. So it's unlikely that Dexter is going to wake up and it have all been a "dream". I'm grateful for this and would be extremely miffed if they did mess with the original seasons.

However, a revival would mean the Dexter lumberjack thing could just become one of his lowpoints, as opposed to just the ending. Thank heavens.

Using spoiler tag for obvious reasons.

Spoiler:
Don't think they're going to change the permanence of Debra or others being dead, since that had a lot to do with the ending. It's probable Dexter will just take a detour from lumberjack life and return to his old ways. I'd really like to see characters like Batista or Masuka make another appearance, though that's less likely.

Same again here:

Spoiler:
Exactly. It sounds like the dead folks, are staying dead. Whether or not there will be flashbacks, we don't know. Though I'd find that unlikely, since some of the cast may have aged a tad or changed their appearance for other roles.
I would definitely love to see those characters again, though. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do.
