Thoughts on schools for the upcoming year? - phenexfirf - 07-09-2020

As summer winds down, I still have no idea how to plan for my son's schooling for the upcoming year. I live in the US (in the South) and I just don't get a feel that the school systems have any clue what to do. There are conflicting reports of some schools completely opening; some are saying just do virtual all the time; while other times I hear of a hybrid approach involving alternating days for students.

What are your thoughts on what will happen? Should I just say screw it and keep my son home for at least a semester?

I hear ya. I just want what's best for him (and the rest of the fam, of course). He is a very outgoing kid and I can tell it pains him to not see his friends.

I will say thank god for Fortnite! It has been become the new hangout for him and his buds.

As a parent, I fully understand and agree that your son comes first- no matter what happens.

Stating the obvious, have you contacted the schools In your area to get an Idea of where they currently stand, and what their future holds early next year?

We are waiting to hear a decision on their plans. They say they will let us know in 2 weeks. I am pretty much decided to have him stay home for the first semester. Even if we have to home school him.

Not that I'm questioning your parenthood, but will he be receiving the same (or similar) level of education whilst at home?

That would be my primary concern too. I'm sure some are looking into virtual tutoring lessons for kids not in school. Provides structure of a school day, and is a different authority from their parents to keep them accountable for their school work. Downside being the cost

Good point with virtual tutorials, I wasn't aware of how they're structured.

I'd say It's safe to assume, that the education department will try and cater for every child's needs during remote sessions. Their effectiveness however, remains to be seen.

Ooh. I hadn't thought of virtual tutoring. I will check that out as an option. I understand about cost being a factor, but he is our only kid and worth it...thanks for the idea.
