Sword - It's really useful for fighting people
Pick axe - You need this to survive.
Axe - To get wood faster!
Bow - This is good for killing mobs without getting damaged.

Stone - You can upgrade your tools and make them faster.
Any block - For the great ability of building.
Bow - For projectile vs. projectile with a skeleton.
