File encryption - JaffaKree - 01-17-2020 Are you concerned about theĀ security of your personal files on your pc or in the cloud? Feels like they should be pretty secure if no one gains physical access, though I'm a bit scared of the possibility of some remote access situation through the internet. Figured an extra layer of security couldn't hurt. Maybe some kind of encryption program like https://www.veracrypt.fr/en/Home.html or https://nordlocker.com What do you guys think? Am I being too paranoid? It's not like I have a lot to hide, but who knows what hackers might be able to do with some personal information. RE: File encryption - mothered - 01-17-2020 Thread moved from the Serious Discussion forum to Software & Programs. I use VeraCrypt on all my drives and highly recommend It. Given It's open-source, you can't go wrong. I'm running three layers of encryption- full disk encryption, encrypted volume (via VeraCrypt) and my data that's stored In the volume Is also encrypted. Is It an overkill? Perhaps. Am I being overcautious? Absolutely not. If anyone Is looking at using VeraCrypt for the very first time, let me know. I have documented an In depth tutorial on my blog that will guide you from start to finish. RE: File encryption - Drako - 01-17-2020 I have used VeraCrypt for certain files in the past. But now, it seems a bit overkill. There aren't any top secret government files on my HDD, I live in a safe place, and I don't even take my computer out of my bedroom. RE: File encryption - SCARIO - 01-17-2020 Put the flash memory up hidden files. I now feel much safer storing scans of personal documents on my PC, thank you! You'd be surprised how much I've used your blog in the few short days I've known about it. I have already used your tutorials for adding GPM to Windows 10 Home, sandboxing using 360, unlocking a PC with a flash drive, and now VeraCrypt. Excellent. I document a tutorial at least every second day. Because they're my very own guides, some take quite a while to complete. The time-consuming part Is not only testing applications/software but (believe It or not), making sure that the screenshots fit to size and are clearly legible. Proofreading prior to publishing, Is also part of the equation. Out of curiosity, how do you publish your posts? Do you use a prebuilt blogging software, like wordpress or something, or is it all a self-written website? I've heavily edited the HTML template and applied many custom CSS rule-sets, to remove the Blogger copyrights and give the appearance of a website rather than a blog. |
