Tennessee and Meth-Gators - Dismas - 07-18-2019

Apparently the animals in Tennessee have been ingesting the drugs people flush, creating a phenomenon known as meth-gators.

Quote:Word to the wise: don't flush your meth down the toilet.

That's the warning coming out of the Loretta Police Department in Tennessee after investigators said they caught someone "attempting to flush methamphetamine along with several items of paraphernalia" on Saturday.

The department advised against disposing of drugs, including pills, via the sewage because "when you send something down the sewer pipe it ends up in our retention ponds for processing before it is sent down stream."

"Our sewer guys take great pride in releasing water that is cleaner than what is in the creek," police said, "but they are not really prepared for meth."

Authorities said that waterfowl, including geese and ducks, end up in that water -- and they "shudder to think what one all hyped up on meth would do."

But in addition to birds, officials said if the water headed far enough downstream... "it would create meth-gators in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River down in North Alabama."

"They’ve had enough methed up animals the past few weeks without our help. So, if you need to dispose of your drugs just give us a call and we will make sure they are disposed of in the proper way."

Quite an Interesting article.

I thought the drugs would've dissolved/broken down by the time they reached the endpoint.

How do the meth-gators differ from the regular gators? I wonder what noticeable differences there are

I'm sure meth dealers and or chemists have no regards for wildlife. Only themselves and money. So it wouldn't do much good to warn them.

Probably more energetic and aggressive. Plus when it wears off I assume they get angry.

If it weren't so immoral, I would definitely start a petition to put a meth gator in a controlled scenario and see how strongly it reacts. Meth-gators, someone should make a game about that.

May depend on purity and obviously the amount. If only 2gs got flushed nothing, but potentially 100s of people flushing unknown amounts. Or drugs still in bags

You've made a very valid point here.

I don't believe their message will be taken on board by (the majority of) those guilty of their actions. They simply couldn't care less how they get rid of their drugs, and who It affects.

Would that mean that we can call Tennessee as Alligator Methennessis now?
