Fuchsia OS Developer Site Goes Live With Documentation - skeeba - 07-01-2019 Quote:Google hasn’t revealed much about Fuchsia OS publicly, but every now and then, it quietly drops hints and clues which further affirm the progress of the mysterious OS. It's obviously an OS, but what benefits does it provide over Windows, Mac, or the already existing Unix like Operating systems? AFAIK, Fuschia OS is supposed to offer: increased security , portability (tablets, phones, embedded computers, etc.), and technological modernity (a la a microkernel called Zircon). Also, Android is old as f***. It was a cool PoC, but we can do better from what we've learned from it. I believe this is what Google is attempting to do. On a side note, I personally don't like Android, but prefer one of the derivative projects with removed Google malware. I wonder what Fuschia OS will potentially offer in terms of software freedom. From what I've seen in the "beta" app they released a couple of years ago with the basic layout etc it looks extremely good, way better than Android will ever look imo. I just don't know if it's a smart move for Google to let Android bleed out and fully focus on a new OS that basically has 0 apps right now. I don't know if Fuchsia will support the Android SDK but if they don't they will most likely lose a ton of smaller app devs because they will need to rewrite their whole app for a new SDK. That would mean that there would be less devs switching from Android to Fuchsia. But I'm sure that if Google wants to make Fuchsia what Android is today they will announce it long before it'll actually happen and give developers the help and resources to migrate to new SDK's if needed. I'm afraid that Google might be building operating systems even when there is not a need for one, which eventually leads us to the question is there a need for Fuschia? It'll certainly be interesting to see how it plays out.(07-01-2019, 01:46 PM)Tracefl0w Wrote: What is the hype of Fuschia? Agree. I still use a few Google services, but I try and keep It down to the minimum. |
