Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - Imada Duty - 09-17-2013 On November 13th and 14th the North American Utility Reliability Corporation will be conducting an exercise that will simulate an attack that would knock out our entire power grid. New York Times article There saying that it wont effect anyone there only going to see how the governments react with all of its people out of power. Please read these as well. source source Do you remember 9/11? They were simulating an attack that day as well. Are you prepared? RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - w00t - 09-17-2013 If you're going to be paranoid, you could at least have facts straight. NORAD conducted hijacking defense exercises two days before 9/11. I don't even need to google that company to know that it's likely a watchdog agency, and as such it has close to 0 access to any meaningful targets. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - Imada Duty - 09-17-2013 The US, Mexico, and Canada will all be participating. Its a test not an actual attack. There admitting that it could happen why else would they be simulating it. Its not a watch dog agency its going to include everyone form utility workers to the FBI. Take 5 minutes to read the article before you shit on my thread. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - Sponsor - 09-17-2013 This will be an interesting action taken, and I'll be sure to be prepared. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - w00t - 09-18-2013 A coordinated effort to wargame != shit comes to reality. I know for a fact there are frequent wargames that attempt to poke holes in Washington, DC's security( think: monuments going boom and important people dying ), that's still not happened. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - Imada Duty - 09-18-2013 World trade center (twice), pentagon, french district (every house is a monument) , times square, BP oil spill were all simulated yet only one was successfully stopped. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - w00t - 09-18-2013 And that means that a wargame ensures that activity will happen? The military does its best to wargame everything. As not nearly everything has happened, that's clearly not a cause-effect relationship. Some things can't BE stopped. We can't prevent everything from happening while still having a free society. With bleach and ammonia I could gas a neighborhood or two, but noone's ever said "we should make people get licenses for cleaners." BP oil spill is just a horrid example for you, as wargaming that, the goal was never to magically prevent oil spills from ever happening, it was to minimize the effect an oil spill would have. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - Imada Duty - 09-18-2013 I agree that the wargaming (your word not mine) of zombies and and robots taking over are likely to never happen but the power grid going down is a REAL threat. The infrastructure has been there for a hundred years and is faulty at best. You've never experienced a blackout? I live in the city and just about every summer we have one. there were big blackouts in new york not that long ago and they had a big one in the 90's. If 1/4 of the country lost power for a week it would have massive effects. Even hurricane Irene knocked out 20000 houses for about a month. Your going to tell me that our electrical grid is indestructible. Promise me that if you can't plug your phone in or nuke your hot pocket your not gonna kill yourself. Your obviously not prepared . How you gonna happens play with your little pee pee with no cartoons. RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - NyappyRizaki - 09-18-2013 I'm not going to comment on the government possibly doing any wargaming, but I will say that I can't even stand to last 2 hours without power. I am reading the articles and the one thing I'm wondering is this - is this the whole US (along with Canada and Mexico) going down just for this drill? If so, well f*ck. I hope I have something to keep me occupied if this were to happen where I live. EDIT: Read the 2nd source... maybe I'll be fine??? ![]() RE: Blowing up the Power grid (exercise) - w00t - 09-19-2013 No, I'm saying our electric grids are VERY vulnerable. So are our population centres. And everything else. You can't have freedom and absolute security. What I question is your cause/effect relationship between simulated events and the real events. Contrary to what you seem to think, people did actually live before the wonders of modern electronics. That aside, with a small generator, I can keep my phone charged( pointless as it would be ), and power any equipment I'd need to cook shit. You should really stop jumping to conclusions about who I am, as you've yet to be remotely close. No, this doesn't mean there will be a coordinated black out. Unless, of course, you buy into this conspiracy theory, in which case you should go buy a generator and a bunch of petrol. |
