Pretty scummy to fake an assault, much less make it look like a hate crime. Hope the guy gets some time.

"Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career," Johnson said at a news conference Thursday after Smollett's arrest.
"I'm left hanging my head and asking why," he continued. "Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations? How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and see an opportunity to manipulate that symbol to further his own public profile? How can an individual who's been embraced by the city of Chicago turn around and slap everyone in this city in the face by making these false claims?"
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office has approved disorderly conduct charges against Smollett for allegedly filing a false police report. If convicted of the felony, he could face up to three years in prison.

And If convicted, a sentence of three years (maximum) behind bars Is a joke. He'd probably be out on parole within 12 months.

Really frustrated with the probable sentencing, however am glad that they are felony charges, so that will screw him over a little down the line as he deserves, no doubt it will really affect him that much though unfortunately.

But really, prison? If nobody got hurt, and if the actor agreed to be hit on conditional terms, what charges were put up against him?

Perhaps the picture isnt clear, it never is, especially in a news story, nothing is black and white, being sceptical is sometimes wise, especially if its debatable.
Theres always agents or promoters which prepare the 'stage', if their client does well, they get more money, perhaps somebody is lying? Who knows.

A maximum of twelve, and probably as little as a month or two.
