Funimation President: 'We Tried to Renew Deal with Crunchyroll'

Crunchyroll and Funimation terminated their licensing partnership last month, and are having troubles attempting to renew on terms they both agree with.

In an interview with Newsweek posted on Thursday, Funimation president Gen Fukunaga said that Funimation had tried to renew the partnership with Crunchyroll, but that Crunchyroll's terms did not suit Funimation. "Sony had to make this tough decision," Fukunaga said. "If [Crunchyroll wasn't] going to budge on those terms, then we just have to double down and decide if we're going to go at it alone. And that's what happened.”

Funimation has recently signed a deal with Hulu, and many Funimation titles will be available through them in the US going forward.

I hate this.
Basically if you want to legally watch anime you have to have subscriptions on every god damn streaming service, none of them can have all the anime because some piece of shit company consolidates all the streaming rights for themselves and don't let other's stream it.
Oh and you can find a lot of anime for free on pirate sites so why pay money for Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll and Funimation when you can just get a free copy.

I feel exactly the same. You can watch a majority of shows on kissanime or some other ad-infested free website (thank god for adblock), instead of paying a ton just to access the variety you're after. Don't forget, most people like watching regular TV too, where the same problem is happening. Add that to your bill, too.

Some of my favorite anime are from Funimation. Crunchyroll screwed up big time.

Agreed. I would like to think they will rework their terms, but it sounds like that is not going to happen. The article made it clear that they're sticking to those terms. Also, Funimation has pressure from its new partnerships (aka Hulu). I doubt Hulu would be happy to share the glory.
