Hey all I'm having trouble with getting kali linux up and running using Oracle Virtual Box, it keeps coming up saying 'FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium! System halt.' If any could help I would really appreciate it

Sounds like a corrupt .iso to me or could be the virtual hdd first thing to do is compare the checksums from the kali website and the .iso you have if they are different re download it.

Issue was solved thanks! it was the iso file. I must say I like how you have complete control of your system using linux, however it is still very difficult will need to learn about the language before messing around.
Any advise on where to read up on this info?

I am a noob. I am trying to install linux ubuntu 12.0.4.4LTS.The problem with my machine is that its:
- too old so doesn't support CD reading anymore.
- Don't have a USB flash disk to use.
- Tried Wubi but won't download iso image because of school wifi proxy restrictions
So any ideas of how I can install Ubuntu . I already tried virtual box and it lags, not that interestsing.

Hello guys,
I saw the warning that the last post was 2 weeks ago, but I cannot open a Topic myself, so I had to borrow this one, for beginners.
I have installed with Dual-boot Kali Linux (aside using Windows 7).
At the boot process, if I do not have the USB inserted (the one which has the image burnt on it from Kali Linux ISO), the GRUB wont start correctly and will go in grub_rescue.
Why does this happen?
When I return the USB, and restart, the grub starts perfectly.
But it's silly to always have the USB in, in order to boot correctly.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

No enter it from within the kali, it knows where the necessary config files are and will update them, failing that you may need to reinstall grub.

@chmod: For the time being, I re-set the Boot priority to launch Windows automaticly (not going into grub). I think I'll leave it like this for now.
However, I couldn't fully remove the Kali Linux, as I installed it at the same partition as I have windows (I had only one partition at the begining - it was my bad). If you have any idea how can I remove Kali with another way, I'm all ears!

As far as I am aware (and someone here will correct me if I'm wrong) there is no way you can install 2 OS' onto a single partition for a start both use different filesystems so I have no idea what you have actually done tbh.
