This is a great tutorial! I'm kind of a beginner in hacking, not so much in Linux, & I was easily able to follow your instructions. I ran into a few problems, but I'm assuming its my system so gonna do some tweaking & try again! Thanks for the good information.

Backtrack isn't working too great for me, I'm not sure why I tried 2 differnt live CDs. I've installed the tools needed on Ubuntu, but only thing I'm missing are the pentest files. Is there any way I can obtain these alone? I've tried decompiling the backtrack ISO to get the files ..with no success. Maybe someone could copy them for me?

The simplest way would be to boot the live CD for backtrack and then mount your HDD and copy the files across. The problem with distros like backtrack and kali is that they're typically designed for advanced users and require quite a lot of configuration to get them working properly.

Well the problem is my live CD doesn't even boot.. just sticks at a blank console screen. I've configured backtrack before, but I can't even get it to boot anymore. It did once & crashed, from there its been history. Tried multiple live CDs as well.

Hmm strange and to be honest I have not booted into backtrack myself for quite some time, which files are you actually interested in?
