Furthermore, as technology advances so too does the need for resources. 32GB may be somewhat of an overkill for now, but at least you'll know It will suffice for many years to come. (These are the words from @mothered's post on another thread)

Really depends on what you use it for. I've got 24GB in my system and 200GB in my server. So it's all about what you plan on using it for and whatever RAM you're allocating to services.

Nice one. And you still have more than enough memory for other tasks.

I only had one VM running at the time. I shall hit 4-5 simultaneous VMs and see how It performs.

I don't run any VM's on my workstation. I run them all on my VM server and use VMRC to interface them. That's all just chrome and VS

I spent $250 on my RAM. 4 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 dual channel DIMM modules. You could do 32GB worth of 1333's for about the same: Link

Keep in mind, size doesn't mean a whole lot when it comes to RAM. Pay attention to number of channels (the more the better), CAS timing (the lower the better), RAS timing (lower the better), bank cycle timing (awesome if it is less than CAS*3, and speed (1333 is basically the standard for DDR3, but most motherboards support up to 1866. Good boards will support up to 2400).

My Predators run DDR4 2400MHz. No doubt I need to opt for that speed. The MOBO can accommodate 64GB, so It won't be too long before I throw In a couple more sticks. There's 4 slots with 2 In use (2x16GB) leaving 2 slots unused. I'm quite happy with the memory's accessibility- undo 2 screws underneath the lappy, the plate comes off and In goes the ram. It'll take 5 minutes at the max, and that's with a blunt screwdriver.

You may want to go down to 4x8gb's.. smaller sizes are less dense and tend to perform better under load. DDR4 has ECC, but if you're constantly correcting effective row hammers, you're losing speed

Good point, but that'll leave me with 32GB In total. I have that capacity now and I'm planning to double It with 4x16GB.

Surely the loss of speed wouldn't constitute to the equivalent of 16GB usable/available memory @2400MHz?
