It is not, lol. The most shitty AV probably is Avast. And In My top AVG takes second place. Overall, in the tops around the internet, it's in the top 10 everywhere. (not 10th place, just in the top 10, lol)

You're not looking at reliable sources then. AVG actually doesn't do anything and i've proved it quite a few times on personal notes. I even tried a random AV called Quinti or something like that, (that's definitely not the name of it, but something similar to it) and this unknown AV did better than AVG for response time, and detecting known infected files that I released from a zip archive out onto my desktop. It's not even sponsored by EICAR... If it's in the top 10 anywhere it would definitely rack up in 10th place. Not to mention it's a known cause for system BSOD crashes as well free or paid versions out there, along with AVAST as mentioned before, but AVAST actually does it's job, and is rated somewhere averaging at about in the top 4. The only reason I don't use it though is because I know it's a known cause for BSOD's globally recognized by MVP's.

Trust me though, if you go to any legit security analyst, they wouldn't even get you looking at AVG, it's terrible. I'm not sure where you're getting your sources from but they are either invalid, or outdated. It's just a free alternative that is popular to an average computer user. But I would recommend MSE instead.

And from a very reliable source: http://www.av-comparatives.org/

AVG sucks.

For example, I just googled it up. Looks pretty nicely served.

I believe, that AVG will never be in top 3, also I believe you sniff something, gunpowder for example. AVG is not so shitty as you serve it.
How I mentioned before, opinions will differ. But no need to deny other people opinions.

I deny your "opinions" with solid facts and statistics, how can you regard my response to you as opinion-based in any shape or form? Quite honestly this post is a little out of disrespect, and I think you would be the one sniffing something if you can't look at the research i've taken the time to gather for you as evidence for my primary statement. You haven't even taken into consideration the evidence i've provided to you. I've been involved in computers and computer security for more than 10 years now, which i've seen evolve from back when I first started my studies using Windows 98, and you're telling me that I sniff gunpowder? I don't think so...

You also state AVAST as being the worst AV, yet it marks #6 on that site you've provided to me, which doesn't make any sense at all.

As in MY references, your site also states Bitdefender and Kaspersky as top AV's which is exactly what i've provided you in my information. Along with F-secure which was mentioned in one of the first links I've provided.

toptenreviews.com furthermore is not a very reliable source for information about Antiviruses. A more recognized source for tech people out there would definitely be PCWorld. http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/collection/5927/2011_paid_av.html

2012 hasn't even started yet, so the reviews there aren't any later than the data i'm providing you with.

RE: wich one is the better antivirus? - FunKx - 11-26-2011

The site you provided, lists only top 5. I bet AVG is somewhere in the next 5. And I said AVAST is probably the worst AV. (notice the sixth word)

This is an endless fight.

RE: wich one is the better antivirus? - ArkPhaze - 11-26-2011

Just hanging in there in the top 10 doesn't make it a great AV. What i'm trying to get you to notice is not ranks, but more of the reasoning based on real tests for why these AV's are good and bad. You're not seeing the bigger picture here, which is what you should be looking at. AVG shows up with false positives, but not only that, doesn't block half of what the newer generation in unknown advanced malware represents. That's my main point here, it's not good at all. Maybe in the future they will have a better updated database of known malware and malicious codes to look for, but currently they don't.

The reason why MSE was so successful is apparent because they recently partnered with Symantec in their development of Windows 8 to put a built in Antivirus into that OS. They have the best of both worlds. Data from error reporting and the Windows customer service statistics that get sent in from everone's computers to the Microsoft HQ, as well as the years of built upon data from malicious known strings used by the Symantec corporation for their Antiviruses, one of the most reputable of which, known as Norton.

Then one question. Where do these sites get the statistics? By not testing them? Noone tests them? Just wichever sounds better, will be better ranked?

Quote:Then one question. Where do these sites get the statistics?

AV-Comparatives does these tests on their own in their research lab.

Their methodology is even posted here: http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse/methodology.pdf

As i've said, it's a very reliable, recognized, and trusted source.
