But then again you can have viruses on windows and not linux

I thought so when I tried Debian (or well, when I tried Linux for first time) and even with some distros trying to improve the user experience it's hard because a lot of things have to be done from the terminal which for a lot of people is a mysterious.

I have to agree that it's not yet for any person, it requires some amount of knowledge before switching to it (even more if you used Windows before) but in my opinion the try is a good idea, I only use Windows for play, but developing and usual browsing is all done from Mint, and security testing is done from Kali.
