I believe there to probably be almost an equal amount of girls who join said fields, be it programming or hacking.
It's just you won't hear of their "gender" often, because let's face it, most guys interested in this field, lack the maturity to not go "OMG A GIRL MUST E-RAEP".
With the kidding part aside, from what I've seen of the internet, it's quiet understandable as to why they wish to not display their gender.
