RE: Linux VS Windows - Devastion - 06-18-2014 There is distributions of Ubuntu with different UI. I don't like Ubuntu UI too, but elementaryOS UI is just great for me. I was talking not only for standart Ubuntu. The gaming on Linux will grow up, but not really soon. If steam machines get more popular it will be good for Linux.

Indeed it will, if you had asked me a year ago I would have said not a chance but I'm happy to report I may have been wrong! elementaryOS uses the XFCE interface which is the same as I use on my Fedora install, I've tried a lot of window managers and have yet to find one I like more. RE: Linux VS Windows - Plexcon - 06-18-2014 Eventhough I don't like to use Linux as a desktop OS I actually hope it's going to get really popular in the next few years so it becomes the next windows. I just want something that works "as easy" as windows, Something similar, Something my parents could switch to too. I'm all for UI changes as long as it has a Start button, the same map structure, and that all programs are able to run on Linux. But that is just my 2 cents as a noob who only uses linux for school and servers. RE: Linux VS Windows - Devastion - 06-19-2014 elementaryOS is simple. The interface is clear and you can navigate easy. The "start button" menu is great. For surfing and watching movies is perfect. Your parents can easy switch to this OS. The problem is that the skype is a bit different and buggy (in my mind). But most parents aren't interested in switching the OS. They need "only to work" and they don't have time (most parents) to learn the new OS. Only the gaming performance, mouse/keyboard drivers and some games make me use Windows. Even my girlfriend is using GNU/Linux. If this doesn't prove it to be "easy to use"... :troll: RE: Linux VS Windows - Plexcon - 06-19-2014 (06-19-2014, 08:39 AM)erpicci Wrote:It doesn't.(06-18-2014, 11:17 PM)Plexcon Wrote: I just want something that works "as easy" as windows, Something similar, Something my parents could switch to too. Serious answer: Of course it doesn't (noticed the troll face?), because "easy to use" has not a precise meaning, so there cannot be precise proof. Moreover, in comparative topics like this, qualitative aspects ("easy to use", "I like the graphics / UI"...) should be avoided, unless a strong motivation is provided. So far in this thread, in my opinion, there has not been users saying "I claim this, and this is supported by these sources (papers, articles...)"; they/we just expressed unsupported opinions or experiences. So I did. RE: Linux VS Windows - L0aD1nG - 06-19-2014 Linux for ever...and let the others live with their spying machines! If i start giving the negatives for windows compared to linux today i will probably end like in 2 days :Content: RE: Linux VS Windows - zomgwtfbbq - 06-19-2014 Both platforms have their benefits. What annoys me is that nowadays lots of linux users(especially script kiddies) think they're superior and elite because they have to type some shell commands once in a while. Reminds me of some mac users that want to be different, look I'm a mac user!!! Spoiler:I love windows for photoshop,daz3d/poser and dreamweaver and I'm not ashamed of it. Hey at least I don't use IE.

If someone does then speak for him separatly plz.. But they should assume what they really are......not being spied by there own acquiescence. As for your reasons about why you love Windows, there is not even one reason that is based on the OS itself!Only about the programs some programmers made to work ONLY on windows... |
