The other 96% is made up of the "dark web," or "deep web," a vast online space commonly favored by mass hackers and smugglers. So how exactly does the dark web work? And why is Facebook currently tapping into it?

TL;DR: full of edgy fags, drug markets, scammers, pedos.

It sucks.

If you are thinking of browsing the dark web, I would wait as Tor is no longer secure anymore. The are creating a new, faster network - I haven't heard anything in a while, but if it's not out already, it will be soon.

Cool. Now prove tor is broken.

No, I'm not saying that it's broken, it's just not as safe as people think. Exit nodes can be sniffed, if you check your email using Tor you are just making it easier to identify you. It is fine if you know how to use it; Bridges, not using a VPN, etc. It can't protect your from traffic that has left the Tor network due to the usual attacks, it's not perfect but just be careful.
