You know that emailing our law enforcement ain't going to help you much further, you will probably hear something like:
We may not give out any further information related to this. Once the servers are checked and the servers are clean from illegal activity, we cannot give you anything back for legal reasons...
unless you want to spend enough money, get a lawyer and fight against it (which probably takes longer than getting them back probably), you can't do anything.
The dutch police is way to ignorant for this.
(and I can tell you I am a citizen out of the netherlands)
The police in those bigger cities such as but not limited to The Hague are way straight to the point then for example in my country...
The are also alot of different in handling things than they do in my city
Well I hope you get it back ASAP.

I am wondering whether Oni is just lying to himself, or lying to everyone else. Or perhaps a bit of both.
I think it will be a miracle if they get the data back within the near future, or even at all for that matter. Even the Ecatel rep said as much. The legal process is long and that server is evidence.
The reality is that you may likely never get your content/data back. And if by chance you do it will be at a point where it really does not make a difference. I think Oni is hoping people won't notice and just move on.
Regardless of that though - it's a piss poor excuse for administration. No offsite backups for over a month? Particularly after a major change like the merging of another massive community? People have been fired for a lot less than that.

Really? I had maybe 5 posts before this happened. There's nothing for me to deal with. I haven't lost anything haha
I do like how you suggest that I must "suck up" or leave SL though. Because so far on this thread it seems sucking up is all anyone is doing despite the fact that due to administrative incompetence a massive amount of data is likely lost.

It's like you all have Oni-blinders on. He can do no wrong. Except in the last month there has been lost hosting. regular, significant downtime. bugs and errors in the software. people leaving en-masse due to his decisions. and now more significant downtime and massive amounts of lost data.
Is it not clear who is to blame? It's the person running things. Some scenario's might be beyond his control, like law coming and removing his servers. But a competent admin would have recent, complete backups he could restore in a few hours. A weeks downtime with a promise that some day the data might be returned to him is simply a poor excuse for administration. The fact that you cannot, or will not, accept this, is amusing at best. Sad at worst.

Give him some slack. He's a college student. Finals are going to be in a few weeks and I bet a good amount of papers are going to be due. There's no way that Oni could have foreseen SL's server being taken by Europol.

^Vouch. Although it might not seem like it; some people on the Internet actually do have real-life obligations and chores to be done...
