I think they're /ONE/ of the best. They're really involved in making the game actually seem like it's in that time, which they (needless to say) did a very great job with.

Hmm, I can't really say there's a "best" one for me. There's:
Best bang for your buck: The Geneforge series. Basically 1 man did a better RPG job than many studios (2D isometric)
Most replay value: Skyrim
Fondest memories: The Monkey Island series
Best game that many others hated: Deus Ex: Invisible War

Mass Effect was great, ended terribly so can't wait for the new ME game that's being announce dthis year.

Skyrim never gets boring.
Would also say Hitman Absolution played 5 times liked the story and the game it self love games that you need to think on how you going to finish your job.

Ending was so unexpected.
I usually figure out the ending halfway into the game, and this one was fucking crazy.
Other good single player games (for plot):
- Assassin's Creed (1 and 2)
- Prince of Persia (Sands of Time, Warrior Within and to a lesser extent Two Thrones)
- Beyond Good & Evil
- The Last of Us (haven't played this but heard great things about it)
- GTA 3 (fun, but in retrospect the plot wasn't really that amazing)
