Seems the majority of members prefer IRC.
I remember the good old days of MSN Messenger, later took the branding of Windows Live Messenger. It was very widely used by the general community.

I know I'm a bit late to the thread, but I'd also prefer to use good 'ol IRC. Never had any major problems with it and shouldn't go down like Discord.

There's a really cool site/application called Telegram. It works really well as an alternative for Discord.
