You miss the point. While there may be advanced techniques, the core gameplay of smash bros remains the same. Wide, open areas, with launching. No specials (a final smash is luck mostly) Now take close a look at this:

Its very different. You want to stay in range, counter, combo break, and build your heat gauge for specials and power ups. Its not unlike a game of chess.

Vastly prefer Smash Brothers to Blazblue. If I were forced to pick another favorite it'd probably be Tekken or Soul Calibur. Both are classics.

I wasnt debating favorites, @Oni I was debating mechanics. Altho Soul Caliber is a good choice, and alot of fun, even if its a bit slow.

I don't think you've played Smash Bros enough. Mechanics are a bit more complex than you've implied.

Actually, I used to play alot. Played Smash, Melee, and Smash Bros for Wii and Smash 4. Even played in a tournement or two. Was fairly decent. But simply put, its never been a fighting game. A brawler, yes, prob closer to golden axe or battletoads, but its very different from games like street fighter.

Yes but both games have the same concept. which is to battle another player and hopefully beat them. They are different styles of fighting games, doesn't mean it can't be competitive

It's like when you play a sport. Baseball is vastly different from a sport like soccer (or football i don't judge). But it is still a sport. Just because it's a different style of play, doesn't mean it's not competitive. exe. the World Cup & the World Series

I never said it wasnt competitive, i said it wasnt a fighting game.

These games have next to no similarities to battletoads or golden axe lmfao. Those are beat em up games where you go through a level and beat the shit out of your endless enemies. Smash Bros has a certain amount of fighters duking it all out one at a time.

?

Also same goes for it being a fighting game. Just because it isn't a specific type of fighting game, doesn't mean it isn't a fighting game. Use my baseball / soccer analogy there too

RE: Competitive Super Smash Bros - Skullmeat - 06-14-2016

Its much closer than you think. Slower gameplay, the goal is to use simple repeated attacks to launch or defeat enemies. The levels often have gimmicks too.

>slower gameplay

yeah...slow...

I find Soul Caliber to honestly be slower than smash melee. Brawl? Now that is slow I will give you that. but definitely not melee

I'll give you the other two though. you are correct there
