C#, a language exclusive to windows and gives any skid false hope that they're good at something, is now more useful than Python and C++ which are both (mainly) platform independent?
Sorry, let me rephrase that. I did not mean to say C# was better or more useful than Python or C++. I don't believe that at all. I just believe it is very useful, and worth learning AFTER C++ or Python.

When I said every programmer should know at least one OOP, I meant if you're gonna learn ONE, it should be Python or C++. I should've made that part more clear, I agree.
(03-25-2016, 05:05 AM)meow Wrote: Again, exclusive only to Windows. Furthermore, yes C# is powerful, but it is nothing compared to C++ which is way lower-level than C#, giving you way more control over execution flow, memory, etc.
Keep in mind, the major demographic of programs, malware, and even games are for the Windows operating system.

And as for the last part, I'm sorry, I'm still very new, so I don't really know the 'norm' of this forum board. I'll stop signing my posts.

Thanks for the feedback!

Dammit, now I feel bad. Why weren't you mean to me? Sad Sign your posts as much as you want!

Anyhow, on a side note, you'll find that the most complex and beautiful malware is written for the Linux kernel. (refer to rootkits written in C for unix OSs and/or kernel exploits)

Quite alright. I didn't find it rude at all. Thank you for the +rep, and I'll look into that. I haven't looked at the code of many forms of Malware. As you may know, the Malware community spend almost as much time coding their Malware as they do protecting it from Reverse Engineering.

Nice attitude and response! Smile

I found something funny on Twitter that I thought was related to the subject. (hah)

It’s not enough to avoid writing code in the Java language. You must also avoid writing Java in another coding language.

The discussion below the tweet is even funnier.

I second this. C++ and Python were the first two languages I tried. C++ is still my favorite (with the exception of PHP).

I think the OP made a good choice with C++.
There are many ways to go if you know C++, even if you just use it as a stepping stone.

RE: Help me pick a college course. - kuro - 04-10-2016

I think you should pick a language based on what you intend to use it for in the future. Pick a language which you are sure to use in your future.
I don't know why you had a bad experience with java and i think you should give it a shot
Java is architecture neutral and platform-independent. It also lets you connect to the internet. It also includes all the C,C++ attributes.
C++ is waayy more faster than Java but isn't architecture neutral and platform-independent.
Python is very easy to learn but isn't good for more memory intensive tasks and can run slow compared to other languages like c++
The point is every language has its own drawbacks and its own purposes. They were created for those purposes. Think about why you want to learn before choosing a language. If you need any help feel free to PM me any time.

Basically, you should use C++.

I second Primitive that Python is a good starting language. It's multi platform (interpreters are native to Linux and Mac, readily available for Windows) and fairly easy to learn. In fact, many university introduction computer science classes use Python. In addition, Python is the scripting language of choice for penetration testers.
