And the problem broadly stems from putting no emotion into music. Pop music was really never about anything insightful lyrically, but I suppose it would convey its ideas more poetically in the 40s-70s, but still all the songs were pretty empty. Of course it's not just lyrics that make music good, but even in the instrumental itself, you can tell when there's creativity and feeling in it, and those have been declining steadily for at least 15 years now. I agree with you on most of this, but concerning the part about musical creativity, I think you're referring to mainstream music, because I find that Progressive Rock/Metal has more creativity in 30 seconds of it than hours of this mainstream bullshit we get served, I can even go further to say that the new generations creativity is killed by the music they hear on the radio and watch on tv, it's so lame, dull and repetitive that it just taps into their minds and makes them increasingly stupid. money is such a problem in this world, people get served with what they want, not what they need to evolve (and i'm not talking about music here, it's about every other thing). Honestly though it's these trendy bands right now that are ruining rock for example: Bring Me The Horizon are pretty much ruining metal right now... so yeah. |
