@Deque Thanks for the suggestion, I was not quite aware of MonoDevelope and looks like they've opened a new portal for .Net programming in Linux, Many thanks! I'll try C# with Mono

@Psycho_Coder Agreed on that mate, I'm going for C# whoo Biggrin

Spoiler:
You want to do game programming, don't you?
So all you need is a language that is supported by game and graphics libraries.
The knowledge you need to create game interfaces is different from making Windows and Buttons that are provided by a GUI library or a GUI Builder like Visual Studio has.

So, C# is not a bad choice, but C++ isn't either.

However, if you choose C# you have to take care that the libraries you use also support Mono. That's a little drawback, there are lots of good books and libraries about game programming in C#, but often they use DirectX, which is Windows only.

For graphics programming with C# you can use Tao or OpenTK which are wrappers for OpenGL.

As game engine I found after some search http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/
That works on Linux and can be used by .NET languages. Here is a C# example using Irrlicht: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/docu.net/default.html

Edit: I read you first post now and I don't know why I thought you want to do game developement only.
For GUI with Mono you can use: http://www.mono-project.com/GtkSharp
Please note that .NET is often considered easy with GUI programming, because Visual Studio has a very good GUI Builder.
I don't know how easy GtkSharp is.

Back to your question: I can't really tell you what is better in your case. I don't do any C++ and I just started with C# and MonoDevelop.

Understood, Talking about Game development, I have XP on dual boot so I can do Games for Windows on it using XNA or any other windows game engine. No to worry about!

RE: Learning C with Psycho_Coder | Part:1 - ArkPhaze - 06-07-2013

C# is still a good language, so don't feel like your time is wasted, you get fast development, easier GUI creation which increases productivity on that side, but as Deque said, you also have MonoDevelop if you want to develop for Linux for instance; not just Windows. If you're into game programming, you also now have the benefit of Unity3D if you wanted to get into games that don't require XNA. I flip back and forth between a few languages, but C# is inclusive.

(Un?)surprisingly, you can do still, quite a bit in C# with the right knowledge. If you go with Unity for game development you won't be limited to just Windows btw. Unity also supports Javascript I believe for game programming, but I just use C#...

Hello , I'm learning C programming language. How to compile and C codes in run commander ? I tried it too many times , but the commander doesn't recognize "gcc" , what can I do ?
