I'd also like to state that taxes don't better society as a whole. They benefit the government who spreads the taxes through families on welfare and food stamps, who in-fact, a lot are too lazy to get a job. We still help society, but the United States isn't the only country. I think they said we donated over 1,000 health kits (towel, tooth brush, tooth paste, nail clippers, water, food, etc.--Basic hygiene and needs) to Haiti after the major earth quake.

Now, that statement is completely ignorant.

They are most definitely NOT too lazy to get a job. Do not make claims like that, when in reality, they are not true. Those families that you are talking down to struggle everyday to keep the lights on. They do all they can, yet still struggle to stay afloat. What's wrong with them getting help from the government? That's what we're here to do; help others. The government offers these struggling families tangible support and help. What does religion do? Pray for them. That's great and all, but we all know that does help AT ALL.

Hahaha looks like the republican is coming out.
I suggest you also read up on everything that taxes are used for.

10.17 million (2012)
Haiti, Population

I am not saying that what you are doing is a bad thing,
but you barely made a dent.

Have you ever heard anybody say that you should look inward before you look outward?
By trying to help everybody you are helping nobody.
You need to focus on one thing at a time.

That is what is wrong with religion and churches.
They try to fix everybody else before they fix themselves.

I didn't finish that before I hit post. Sorry about that. Here's what I meant to add: There are people who should be on it, such as those who are disabled, and simply can't get a job or live without help. I understand that. There are a lot of people, that I have seen at-least that don't need it. They are capable of working and getting a job, but don't because living on bare-minimum money and food from the government is okay. I find that morally wrong. There are people who need it far more.

I'm not republican, as I don't have much of a preference, and if anyone wants to speak of an ignorant statement, you made a horrible blanket assumption/generalization. I know I did earlier, but someone was talking to me when I was typing that. I meant to add that in, but forgot and hit post. Anyway, that was ignorant. Plus, not all of Haiti was effected by it. A small portion was, but still very tragic. I think we made quite the dent, but combined with other churches that are part of World Lutheran Relief (LWR), we made a huge total of kits. Our church was a large contributor. That's something I feel like I should be proud of. Is there a crime in services for other countries/people?

You obviously aren't getting the point of what I was trying to say.

RE: Should Churches Pay Taxes? - Solar - 12-27-2013

There is no reason in my mind as to why churches should be tax-exempt. It absolutely shocked me to see that a total of $71,000,000,000 is the cost of these yearly tax exemptions. That is money being thrown away. Nothing makes our churches so special that they should not have to pay the taxes that others work so hard to pay off themselves.

RE: Should Churches Pay Taxes? - BeastlyHobos - 12-27-2013

Church's do not pay taxes because of the "separation of church and state" plus church's don't have an income the are based solely on donation. (Some of them) Which they use to further there preaching, make improvements, help missionaries, builder house for people. Really you could almost classify them as a charity.
So do charities pay taxes on the money they get?

This would be true if churches used it for just that,
but we are all human.

If I am not lazy later I will post some pics of churches around me.
They are HUGE and look like government buildings.

Also I see businesses give a whole lot more to charities, community, etc.

RE: Should Churches Pay Taxes? - Saikou - 12-27-2013

They should pay taxes if it costs us $71 billion to exempt them.

And why do business give a whole lot to charities because its a tax right off. (That the reason most the time) and yes I know that church's sometime don't use the money for the things that they need but you sometimes have to look beyond, I know of a church that bought a bunch of land right next to them so they can expand (they are small) and then I know of a church that has bought buildings and theaters and apartments and etc etc. that church is super rich maybe to rich
