If you buy additional components you can turn your RPi into a home automation mastermind.
I have a RPi3 working with Owncloud, it's a bit slow but it's a great cloud solution and very secure (if you don't f with the settings ofc).

A cool one that Ive also seen is a smart projector./pocket projector.. It's not as technical of a use buuuuut I think it looks pretty damn cool.
