Hell, Linux itself was a basement dweller's hardon project until the creation of affordable bandwidth if you wanted to stay updated and not have a thousand dollar phone bill, or have to pay postage on an upgrade CD from the devs. Linux is now a powerhouse with crap heaps like Ubuntu and Mint becoming known in wider and wider circles outside computing. It just needed that one bit of technology to give it super powered status. I think physical kill switches and security based software built around those switches could be the bit of tech Mobile Linux needs. Hell, Blackberry is a company most of us never even think of anymore, but they still make some of the most secure phones on the market, with tons of little features and addons for us paranoid types. Even if the Librem stays in its niche, I think it's a big enough niche to continue further development. More and more people are getting serious about protecting themselves online every day. |
