G35s are pretty solid cars. Actually a buddy of mine has over 230k on his and the only thing he's replaced was a window motor. I heard it's easier/cheaper to get high gains with turbos/sc as well. I wasn't overly concerned with speed though. If I wanted that I would have bought a miata. One thing with 35's is the interior paint is crap. Everything you touch daily will eventually start chipping and peeling. They corrected this on the 10+ 37s though, or you could do it yourself with wrap. I personally like the looks of the 37, and needed a 4dr with AWD.

I think those filter housings are plastic. I would guess heat and coolant deteriorating it over time. More fun stuff to fix

the housing is aluminium, the retaining rod and cap is rosin.. it shouldn't start to deform until it hit 300 F

There will always be someone faster out there, and after having two cars (paid off) totaled I have a hard time buying any parts now. Anything new will definitely be aesthetic. I've been wanting to fabricate a starlight headliner, but I only have one car atm and I don't want too much downtime with the project. Maybe in the spring

Oh I by no means care about max speed.. I've owned the car for 1.5 years and I've never taken her above 250.. I just love building track based cars, it's an art to me. Even if the car never sees a real track day, it's still awesome to take a base model car and turn it into a trophy.

I think I want go-fast parts, but the back of my head hasn't let me buy any yet. There will always be someone faster out there, and after having two cars (paid off) totaled I have a hard time buying any parts now. Anything new will definitely be aesthetic. fabricating parts is annoying.. if you mess up even once you get a serious wallet hole. as for "go-fast parts", which we call bolt-ons, don't waste your money. sure, strapping some neat parts on might help but you've got to understand the engineering and how they all work together to really get your money worth. Parts like ECU chips, cold air intakes, electric superchargers, free flowing exhausts, etc are all just gimmics.. they (all together) might give you an extra horsepower or two, but those aren't actually gains, they're just reclaiming what the engine already had but has lost over time

Oh I'm aware. I used the term "go-fast parts" as a general term referring to anything that would net gains, including turbos and sc. I've did plenty research on my G, without forced induction, I'll only be able to push/free up maybe 25 more horses out of the engine ($3k+ later). Most of that is from a tune after full bolt ons, so there will be loss elsewhere.

As far a fabricating parts, more power to you. I've never attempted anything like that myself, I would rather buy the correct part and know it is going to last rather than hoping it all turns out alright. I also don't have the money to throw around for all of that. I'm good with cars, but I still bought a warranty when I got mine.
