RE: What is your goal? - Red_mybb_import25644 - 06-21-2016

The overall goal of mine is to be happy and live a fun adventure filled life doing things I enjoy. Why? Because I would rather get out and see the world for what it is then sitting around all day. If I do end up having children I do want to have them put in a leading school such as "Le Rosey" in Switzerland. Education will be a main strong point I will focus on with my children because I found school boring and fucked around a lot.

My other goal is to double the gross income to several of my family business once I slowly take over them.

To never stop moving forward. I hate when people say "I'm happy where I am", for me that's boring I always want to progress in life.

I think that telling people your goal takes away from the motivation in some ways. Also, people will always be looking at you either to tell you how to achieve your goal or to shoot it down and tell you it's a stupid idea. For me my goal is personal and will remain that way, I don't see why people would want to share with everyone theirs, personally.

Goals differ and because of that, goals have different ways to be achieved. Different views offer different paths to take, and some paths cannot be taken alone. Sharing your goal might give you an idea how to better reach it, or meet others with the same goals. Because of that, sharing your goal can prove to be far more useful than keeping it a secret. Regardless if you tell people your goal or not, you are bound to hear a different side of at some point in your life. By keeping it a secret you are at best postponing it until a later time in your life, while at the same time minimizing the chance to reach it as you don't allow the input of others. To believe that your own idea is the best and the sole way to do something is a terrible mistake to do. Not to mention selfish.

I get what you're trying to say, I guess what I should've mentioned is what kind of goal we're talking about. For me things like finding happiness and fulfillment is not something I would share, but for a goal like being a video game designer, I can see the benefits of sharing and possibly looking for advice directly or indirectly. I tend to see the latter more as a goal and the former that I mentioned more as an aim. Smile

I did ask directly; What is your goal in life?. As in, what reason(s) do you have for waking up or doing anything you do.

yep, but surely if, hypothetically, your goal in life is simply to be happy and feel like you've given your best and exploited every avenue available to you, it's a much wider, deeper and more in-depth goal than I'm waking up today because I want to get promoted to X position in my job. Hence my post about how personally i see different stages to reach as goals or aims.

What is the better goal? To wake up to work for a new promotion or to save 100 people from starvation?

There is no better goal, everyone has their own

Then;

Quote:If your goal in life is simply to be happy and feel like you've given your best and exploited every avenue available to you.

This is no deeper of a goal than;

Quote:I'm waking up today because I want to get promoted to X position in my job.

A goal is a goal, what you think of it doesn't matter. How deep or shallow, how good or bad. This thread is simply asking for a goal. How well you want to go in-depth of your goal is up to you, all this thread asks you to go in-depth on is the reasoning behind your goal. What you entitle "in-depth" for also depends on you and your goal. For example, regarding your job example. Stating that the reason you want to get a promotion is to get more money is going as in-depth as you can for the reasoning behind your goal. Likewise, stating that you wish to help others because you've suffered a great deal yourself is also going in-depth behind your reasoning.
