RE: Peace? - Limited Edition_mybb_import25645 - 07-23-2016 As soon as everybody stops believing in that fictional bullshit "god" "heaven" "hell" etc.. we will be much closer to world peace. People do stuff for their religion atleast that's what they believe. Until everyone accepts difference there will never be peace. And people believe that religion is right and everyone should go by this. This is why there will never be peace or lasting peace atleast. Yeah that was my sort of thinking, because things recently like Isis, and in the past like the crusades RE: Peace? - yokai - 07-23-2016 (07-23-2016, 02:52 PM)Jebusfathead Wrote: Yeah that was my sort of thinking, because things recently like Isis, and in the past like the crusades Religion is often used to justify actions that are unspeakable. The Crusades are one example, so called "Holy Wars" in the name of god. In reality, it was a slaughter, a massacre of chaos and death. It had no real purpose in the end, and served to forward nothing. This is but one of millions of examples in human history. Though religion alone isn't the fault, as it can be used for good as well as bad, as we've seen. (Just look at the current Pope compared to the previous.) It act as a justify element, because religion can be interpreted in so many ways, it can justify anything in the eyes of those that believe it. Though as stated, there are some that are fairly immune to religion's "laws" and blind views. They can be religious and yet not follow it blindly. That is the cause of wars, unrest and what we refer to as "living hell". Blindly following the ideals of someone else, or blindly following your own without a second thought to the world around you. The lack of understanding in your actions, the consequences that come with the power of choice. Hence, why we can say that if freedom was removed, a form of peace would be achieved. As no one would act alone. That idea sparked the concept of "what is truly peace?". That we have yet to figure out, but had religion been removed then humans would have found a different way to justify their actions. If someone committed murder 500 years ago, they could have blamed it on God or that they were following his orders and get away with it in some cases. This don't hold up today, nowhere near close enough. However, we have something equal to that. "I am mentally ill, I wasn't in charge of my body at the time" or alike. Things such as that, we use those to justify or cover our actions, the results of them rather which we didn't foresee. That is in the case if you are caught. What if you aren't? Say someone start a war against another country for no other reason than; "I felt like it". Then we have the case of someone who is most likely mentally ill, and managed to reach power through covering that up. (Hitler is one example in his later years.) Then we have people who justify it by saying whatever they fit. (Bush is a prime example of this.) While not maybe mentally ill, they still justify it with something that isn't really justified to a neutral party. That last part there is the reasons for war, a lack of a neutral party. Its always; "Us or them", "This or that", "Live or die" and so on. Religion is no different. "We're right, they're wrong." Blindly following any ideal will blind you to the chance of see inbetween the lines as well. If humans learned that, then the chance for a lasting peace would increase dramatically. RE: Peace? - W23rd - 07-24-2016 There wouldn't magically be world peace if religion didn't exist. I'm not religious but I think its stupid when atheists claim that world peace can be achieved by getting rid of religion. You don't think countries would go to war over resources? Did you forget about the Iraq war or pretty much any other modern war? RE: Peace? - Theós - 07-24-2016 If we can't come to terms with our global differences (religion, race, political, etc) then no, worldwide peace is an impossibility. Did you forget about the Iraq war or pretty much any other modern war? Removing Religion from the world also removes what is currently the biggest problem in the way to world peace. Its been thousands of years, and we haven't gotten over an agreement in regards to religion, largely that fault lies with religious people. Most people today, and the past decade have had an attitude that is mostly; "I don't believe in God, but I don't hate those who do." Where as most religious people have gone; "I believe in God and hate those that don't." Christianity is the prime culprit here, seeing how they have already labeled all religions and lack of religion as "Satanists", distancing them from themselves as much as possible. Removing religion wouldn't cause world peace, but it would remove the (currently) biggest obstacle in the path of peace. But as I stated in a post above, as long as people keep on forcing themselves into the opinions and lives of others, peace won't be achieve able. Imo religion isn't as big a deal as you believe it is since a lot of religions believe that all shall be accepted or whatever it is due to people misinterpreted views of there believes. If you look into a religion where 2 people ate Christians they could have a complete different view. This Is why peace is never achieveable it is down to people to change but it is in most people nature or some nature to not accept certain things. The word "Satanists" is something the Catholic Church and later Christianity dubbed everyone who don't believe in their religion. This practice and ideal died out decades ago, but its damage is still visible in today's people. Religion holds a great deal of power, and they are unaware of the affects they have on the world, causing decade long suffering and problems. Look through the history of religion, The Crusades, The Inquisition and every other so called "holy battle" in their name. This practice has also dimmed down, as people have started to change their minds and become more opened minded. But it is almost given fact that history will repeat itself, and there are people who still tries to get said practices into reality again. Religion alone is a major cause of war, suffering and hatred. Denying that is just about as reasonable as denying that cancer is bad. For every religious person I have met that state that they believe in God but don't mind if others do, I meet about 100 who doesn't. These are the people who try to "push" their ideals unto others, which is a cause of war and suffering in modern society. If religion wasn't there, then certainly something else would have taken it's place, but at least then we'd be able to resolve one problem, them move to the next to resolve that. We've kept religion for thousands of years, trying to fix and control it, all ending in catastrophe (07-24-2016, 12:18 PM)Albert Einstein Wrote: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We've come to the point in time where people start to realize that God and religion isn't cutting it anymore, it isn't a viable option of blame or help anymore. Because of that, people aren't burned alive, massacred for being a different race and aren't stoned to death for being assumed witches. Certainly there are extremists in the world yet, and those are a newer problem as they distance themselves from religion, but they also use it to justify their actions. Logically speaking, if they lacked religion, they'd need something else to blame or use to justify their actions. Logically they'd have a twisted or different side of a story to tell, which seems like a far better way of coming to a comprise. (As those who act in the name of God, often do so because they are displeased with something and want a change, but state that their reason is God.) Who'd you listen to? The man who killed 100 people and said it was in the name of God or the man who said he did it because these 100 people stole from and caused suffering to other people? |
