I think it's a pretty good idea. I remember this almost being a thing with some people a while back but it was never done for a few reasons I can't remember.
A blog kind of thing that's optimized for SEO and certain keywords might help bring some organic traffic into the forum, since forum posts/pages won't rank as well as blogposts in Google or other search engines

whoops, meant to say 'into the forum'
the whole blog/SEO organic traffic thing is a long-term thing, though. It would take time to build a SEO repertoire, fanbase, etc. But in the end organic, free traffic == best kind of traffic and almost markets itself.
