It really has, it used to be unusable.
But now if you don't plan on doing anything sketchy it's a valid option, still not as good as Norton of Kaspersky though :p

I agree that you cannot compare Windows Defender with Kaspersky and Norton, nor Avira.
That said, It offers very good protection for a native Windows security suite/center.

On my test system, due to Windows Defender's real-time detection namely "false positives" with my tools, I've disabled It permanently via the GPE (Group Policy Editor). As said, I'm quite Impressed with It, however In this case It's a hindrance more than anything else.
