Even if it's just "acrylamide"...

Too much of anything Is not good for you. Even too much water (known medically as "water Intoxication") can be detrimental to one's health. I eat extremely healthy and don't have any (zero) McDonald's. My doctor did advise however, that eating takeout once a week does not have any damaging effects on your health.

On topic, when I used to eat McDonald's many years ago, I enjoyed the offers that came with It. Probably the main reason of selecting McDonald's- just for the chance of wining a prize.

I think the word you're hinting at here is "moderation". Most stuff is fine in moderation. You're totally right!

Somethings we learn to stay away from because we're smarter than that.

That's the agent that I mentioned. It's incredibly unlikely you'll get cancer. As the sign says, the FDA hasn't even suggested people stop eating the food.

Somethings people stay away from because they believe everything they read and aren't media smart. Some people are media smart and know what to actually listen to. We live in a world now where information sharing has reached a whole new speed, so awareness of all the bad shit in food is at an all time high. Also, there is demand for convenience... And with that, preservatives and more arrive.

This monopoly game encourages people to go further than moderation xD

You're right though, it's a good way to measure how to spend your time on various activities.
