This was one of the problems I remember having as former staff member - false reports, because someone was offended, took a response to seriously, or was just trolling. I'm pretty sure at least one or more of the reported posts was on account of "being a nigger", "stupid", or "ban pls", with no context whatsoever. This made it increasingly difficult to ascertain whether it was an actual report or not, as well as piling up over the real ones. That said, it'd be nice if we didn't have to deal with such posts when possible. It seems to me that most of the LQ posting comes from arguments, flaming and trolling most of the time. For the former, calling someone stupid without any context just because they provided a statement completely undermines your argument, and makes you look childish in front of everyone. If you have a point, prove it maturely; if it turns out that, well, they're right, admit it. I'm not kidding when I say the scariest thing to say on the Internet is that someone else is right, but it happens, people. For the latter, it goes without saying that responding to trolls is literally the worst thing possible; you're giving them attention to instigate more useless discussion that drives people away from the real topic at hand, or worse, brings them into the fray. It comes down to three choices on what you can do:
I don't think we should worry so much about getting high quality threads and posts to cover up the low quality threads, more so that we should take action to avoid low quality threads all together, so the actual discussion comes in naturally, not forced. JKAnyway, I'm agreeing to what BreShiE is saying to. Also with Lux and I'm guilty of being lazy to. Also I don't think I know any better than what most of you guys already know, that's also a reason why I don't make any good threads. That is certainly one of the things I have a bit of a concern about, and I have no issue stating in this thread that if I start fielding a bunch of false reports, I will be taking appropriate action against the false reporter. Keep in mind that we as mods can see who has reported a post. Like I said before, the report system is a very useful tool for reporting blatant ToS violations and spam, don't abuse this system and make more work for us. RE: BreShiE's Rant Thread - Step Your Game Up Members! - Cosmic - 01-03-2015 When this board shifted from the slow natural growth it had to merging forums for speedy growth was a double edged sword. As a community, I fucking loved the 10-15 tight members with the 30-40 active on the forum. We were all buddies, posts were relevant and the Skype was fun. When it shifted into the more open community we have now, we're more like a general forum than the technology community we once where, which from an admin's point of view isn't the worst thing ever but from some casual it kinda sucked. We'll weed out the asshats like we always do and eventually quality will pick up. Love you G RE: BreShiE's Rant Thread - Step Your Game Up Members! - Master - 01-03-2015 One day I sign up to HF then forgot about it, then months later when cleaning my spam I saw the email from Sinisterly and I clicked the link. 52 days later I don't regret joining because I found great HQ posts that helped a great deal. So after reading the rules I decided to post HQ as much as possible (even through English is my second language).
RE: BreShiE's Rant Thread - Step Your Game Up Members! - phyrrus9 - 01-03-2015 I signed up for AnarchyForums a long back (after getting a permaban from a coding forum because I proved how the admin didn't know shit). Stayed for a while, the forum was young though and there wasnt much here for me, so I went dormant. When the name changed I came back and saw how much this place grew. The point of this thread is everyone who's posting on the forum complaining about the low quality threads/posts or complaining about SL being down/unavailable or some other problem which will be fixed, is not helping at all. In fact, it's just stockpiling more LQ threads/posts and just tarnishes the content on SL. Which is why I think the members should focus on being more HQ instead of just bitching at each other. SL used to be a place with few member quarrels and I believe it should return to such stance. Also I agree with what you said about the reports. I encountered more reports with such descriptions than actual legit reports in my time as staff. However I looked past the report description and checked out the post for myself to see if it broke SL's rules. I would also PM the reporter if the LQ reports continue and if need-be, warn those not reporting threads/posts correctly after repeat offences and a verbal warning. Perhaps I should write up a thread on how to properly report a thread/post? While merging promoted massive growth on the forum, it slowly started rotting our user base with members that have not idea on how to make a half relevant post. I tried to contribute but all of my posts got buried in shit so I just gave up and took a break. I've come back now and it's better around here, but it's nowhere near how fun this forum used to be. I plan on sticking around now and helping rebuild Sinister.ly, but this time around I'm going to be trying my hardest to get this forum back to how fun it used to be instead of fooling around.
